1. Taj Mahal, Uttar Pradesh

You guessed it right, on top of the list we have The Greatest Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Built in 1631 by the Mughal emperor Shah jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal who unfortunately died before it was built. Today the monument houses the tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz begum. Seems ironic that a tomb is a symbol of love but today the emperor has set a great example of love in the modern era.

2. Chittorgarh Fort, Rajasthan

Built by the Mauryan dynasty in 7th Century AD the fort has legends and folklore passed down today. Also depicted in the movie Padmavat. The story revolves around Rani Padmavati whose beauty was beyond gorgeous and cannot be translated to words. It is believed that a talking parrot spread the word about her beauty to which many Kings were intrigued to take part in her swayamvar. Ratan Singh brought her back to Chittorgarh after many difficulties in their way after winning in the swayamvar.

3. Roopmati’s Pavilion, Madhya Pradesh

One of the top tourist attractions in Mandu is Roopmati’s Pavilion. The oh so legendary and pure love of Prince Baz Bahadur who fell in love with Rani Roopmati’s voice asked for her hand in marriage. Rani Roopmati agreed on the condition that she has a palace from where she can see the river Narmada. Fulfilling her condition, Roopmati's Pavilion was built in 1508. Tragically their love story came to an end when Adham Khan marched up to the fort with his small army.

4. Mastani Mahal, Maharashtra

Showcased in another one of Sanjay Leela Bhansali films Bajirao Mastani is a story between Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani. Due to religious clashes Peshwa’s family didn’t accept his second wife who belonged to Bundelkhand for which he built a Mastani Mahal in Shaniwarwada Fort. The Mahal was later destroyed but evidence of its existence is present there.

5. Rani Ki Vav, Gujarat

Built in 11th Century AD this well is no different than any architectural marvel.

They say death doesn’t part two lovers. Queen Udaymati built this structure in memory of her late husband, King Bhimadeva I. The structure not only depicted their strong bond but it also added value to the people who lived nearby due to the functioning of well. It is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

The stone structure still looks gracious despite the ruins caused by being flooded for about 800 years.

6. Humayun’s tomb, Delhi

Built between 1569 and 1571 by Bega Begum, Humayun’s first wife. The construction started with deep grief in Bega Begum upon Humayun’s death in 1556. According to legends Bega Begum was the only Mughal empress to be captured when she took a risk of travelling after her cousin was exiled to Persia. Humayun rescued her from Sher Shah Suri who imprisoned her.

7. Tomb of Abdur Rahim Khan-i-Khana, Delhi

Built in 1598 by Abdur Rahim Khan-i-Khana for his wife Mah Banu. She was known to be daughter of Jiji Anga and foster mother to Akbar. Rahim was also buried here in 1627. Rahim was known to compose poems on Krishna during the Bhakti movement. Not only was this the first tomb built for women in the region but it was also a mix of architecture between Hindu and Islamic elements.
