Bengaluru is popularly known as "The Garden City" located on the Deccan Plateau in the south-eastern part of Karnataka. Why is it called Garden city? It's because the huge lung spaces like Cubbon Park spread across 100 acres of area with various species of plants and trees. Lalbagh another spectacular and huge garden, which is is a 240 acres garden holding a number of flower shows, especially on the Republic Day. The garden has over 1,000 species of flora. And Bannerghatta National Park, this 25,000-acre park is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Bangalore.

The present-day city was founded by Kempe Gowda in the year 1537. And there is a long tale behind the name "Bengaluru", as per the Gazetteer of India, the term 'Bengaluru' is an anglicized version of "Bengalooru," a Kannada term. The word Bengalooru was in turn derived from the phrase 'bende kaalu ooru', meaning 'the town of boiled beans'. King Ballala of the Hoysala dynasty came across a poor and old woman, who offered him some boiled beans when he was lost in the jungle.
